MIAMI – December 16, 2013 – Marcia K. Cypen, Executive Director of Legal Services of Greater Miami, Inc. (LSGMI), was recently honored by the City of Miami and the City of Coral Gables for 30 years of community service. Presented by Miami Commissioner Mark Sarnoff and Coral Gables Commissioner Vince Lago, the recognitions celebrated Cypen’s outstanding leadership in managing the organization that is the largest provider of broad based civil legal services for low income residents of Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties.

Cypen has devoted her professional career to promoting equal justice under the law. A 1976 graduate of the University of Miami School of Law, she rose from LSGMI staff attorney to become the Executive Director in 1983. Under her leadership, LSGMI has grown to be a $7-million law firm with 30 attorneys who resolve legal problems for the most vulnerable members of the Miami-Dade and Monroe County communities.

In its Certificate of Appreciation, the City of Coral Gables Commission expressed its “heartfelt appreciation to Marcia Cypen…who has demonstrated in many practical ways her deep and genuine love for the community and its residents through so many years of dedicated service.”

In its Commendation, the City of Miami honored Cypen as Outstanding Citizen, applauding her “meritorious work… demonstrating a solid commitment to women, children, seniors, veterans, people with disabilities, low wage workers and the homeless.”

“As a resident of this community for the past 60 years, it has been a privilege to work with an organization that helps the most vulnerable members of our community,” said Cypen. “By helping them, we build stronger families and make the community a better place for all of us.”
