LSGMI Receives Grants from Wells Fargo and the Miami Foundation to Support Community Economic Development
Legal Services of Greater Miami, Inc. was recently awarded grants from Wells Fargo and the Miami Foundation to support the work of LSGMI’s Community Economic Development (CED) Unit.
For the past 30 years the CED Unit has provided free legal services to non-profit community development corporations engaged in the development and preservation of affordable housing and other facilities and programs for low income people.
Each year, the CED Unit’s clients develop or preserve more than 500 units of affordable housing, which are critically needed by the low and moderate income residents of Miami Dade County. This includes the development and preservation of affordable multifamily rental developments and single family homes for low income individuals.
The new grants from Wells Fargo and the Miami Foundation will specifically support the CED Unit’s representation of non-profit corporations interested in increasing their capacity to develop affordable housing in some of the poorest and most distressed neighborhoods in Miami-Dade County.
The provision of legal and technical services under the grant will be provided by Senior CED Attorney Shahrzad Emami.
