This month our Volunteer Spotlight is on Stanley Wakshlag. Mr. Wakshlag’s practice at Kenny Nachwalter concentrates on class action litigation, securities litigation, director and officer representation, complex business litigation, deceptive trade practices, Securities and Exchange Commission enforcement proceedings, professional malpractice matters and litigation with the FDIC arising from distressed and failed banking institutions.
When asked about his work and support of Legal Services Mr. Wakshlag said, “2009-2010 was a perfect storm and crisis for Legal Services. In the midst of the Great Recession, the needs for its services expanded exponentially, with foreclosures, evictions and bankruptcies exploding. At the same time, funding from all sources was dramatically reduced, as a result of federal cutbacks and the lack of interest income from IOTA accounts, two of our primary sources of income. At that time, it became critical to do more to provide for those most in need of help in our community. I asked myself: “If not the lawyers, who else will step up to the plate?” Since that time, I have done what I could to help raise sorely needed funds from our legal and business community to help secure the financial stability of Legal Services. It is something I am proud to have done.”
