America has an eviction crisis. Every year, millions of American families are evicted from their homes, and the recent book, Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City, highlights how evictions trap families in poverty. Jeffrey Hearne, Director of Litigation at Legal Services of Greater Miami, Inc., has been conducting trainings to law firms on the nuts and bolts of defending an eviction. The training covers landlord-tenant law, eviction procedures, and common defenses raised by tenants. The training provides the basic knowledge necessary and offers the opportunity to represent a family facing eviction pro bono. By accepting an eviction case not only will you help a family avoid homelessness, but these pro bono cases will give you significant opportunities for litigation and negotiation. If you are interested in coordinating a training at your firm, contact Jeff at firstname.lastname@example.org.
