McDermott Will & Emery and Assurant Pro Bono Team Help Small Business Owner

Legal Services prides itself in supporting various members of the community, including small businesses. A recent victory involved assisting a small business client with its acquisition of a small mechanic shop

The pro bono attorneys on the case included Partner Alexander C. Clavero and Associate Jenna Young of McDermott Will & Emery, together with Ricardo Morales-Gomez, Vice President and Managing Attorney at the Mergers & Acquisitions department of Assurant. They reviewed transactional documentation, advised the client on obligations and liabilities associated with the acquired business, reviewed and provided advice on transition paperwork concerning the transfer of business under a new company as well as provided the necessary guidance on the practical steps. Finally, they advised and assisted with the dissolution of the client’s previously owned company and made the new business, in essence, operational.

McDermott Will & Emery actively participates in pro bono initiatives and this matter is among many that we are partnering on with Legal Services.  We were happy to work with this client and invest our time and knowledge for the benefit of the community,” said Alexander C. Clavero

“This case was yet another example of the necessity of pro bono service for bridging the gaps in access to legal assistance,” added Ricardo Morales-Gomez.

“Our partnership with McDermott Will & Emery is a great asset to Legal Services and to our clients.  We are grateful for their continued pro bono service and dedication to securing favorable outcomes for clients,” said Carolina de Diego, Legal Services Director of Pro Bono.
